CNC Machining

What is CNC machining?

A broad array of subtractive processes such as milling, grinding, drilling, turning, and electrical discharge machining, are classified under the “computer numerical control” (CNC) machining category. These involve the removal of material from an object or “job” to achieve the desired form or geometry. Machining can be employed with a variety of materials, including wood, metals, and plastics, to deliver prototypes, low-volume runs, and even large-scale production. CNC machining is also important for tooling for plastic injection moulding.

Engineering Plastics offers CNC machining services for part volumes from as few as 10 parts.

Who is CNC machining for?

CNC machined parts may be the solution for your project if:

  • minimising tooling cost is a high priority

  • parts are required in harder materials such as steel, and higher precision than cast parts

  • part design has grooves, slots, and holes

  • quick turnaround is critical

  • you require low volumes of end-use parts or functional prototypes
